A Journey of Collective Effort and Gratitude: SAYE’s Impact in 2023–2024
It’s often said that “it takes a village,” and as we look back on our journey through 2023 and 2024, we can’t help but reflect on the incredible collective effort that made it possible for SAYE Company Ltd. to reach over 2,100 adolescentsacross Rwanda. This journey was one of collaboration, dedication, and unwavering belief that together, we could create lasting change.
In 2023, the foundation of our success was laid with the support of passionate individuals, committed schools, generous donors, and eager students. SAYE’s facilitators worked tirelessly, walking into classrooms filled with young minds in schools such as GS Akumunigo, GS Kabuga Icyerekezo, and GS Nyarusave in districts like Nyarugenge, Muhanga, Kamonyi, and Musanze. With every session, we deepened our conversations about sexual and reproductive health, menstruation, gender-based violence, and healthy relationships, empowering adolescents to take control of their futures.
It was clear from the start that this was no solo effort. The partnership with IHS Tower, who generously supported the donation of 3,600 sanitary pads in 2023, stood as a powerful testament to what can be accomplished when people come together for a common cause. These pads became symbols of dignity, consistency, and empowerment for adolescent girls, ensuring that they could attend school without fear or embarrassment. To all those who stood by us, thank you for helping us make this difference.
In 2024, we saw the fruits of our labor bloom even further. 1,013 more adolescents were reached with the same transformative training. We continued to partner with schools like GS Akumunigo and GS Kimisange, extending our presence and spreading knowledge to communities in Nyarugenge and beyond. This collective effort was also amplified through the creation of the Kigali Menstruation Station—a hub not just for menstrual health, but for meaningful conversations about sexual and reproductive health rights. This station became a safe space where community members, youth, and dignitaries like Minister-President Malu Dreyer from Rhineland-Palatinate could come together to discuss issues that affect us all.
The success of the Kigali Menstruation Station is a reminder that change doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when community members, schools, local businesses, and international partners rally together. We are deeply grateful for the individuals who supported this initiative and for the communities that welcomed us with open arms. Each workshop, each conversation, and each donation was a testament to the power of collective action.
We can’t express enough how thankful we are for the collaboration and commitment of our partners, schools, and supporters. Together, we’ve created a ripple effect of change, empowering 2,100 adolescents with the tools, confidence, and knowledge to make informed choices about their health and future. And though the road was challenging, with long days of travel and countless hours of preparation, every moment was worth it because of the lives we’ve touched.
Looking back, we feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to serve our communities, gratitude for the incredible partners who made our work possible, and gratitude for the young people who opened their hearts and minds to learning and growing with us. Every step of this journey has been a reminder that change is not just a dream it is a reality we build together.
The work of SAYE is far from over, and with the support of our collective efforts, we look forward to continuing this journey of empowerment, education, and transformation for years to come.
